Gabriel Mejía Vélez “Tronchis” was cousin of the village midwife, Adelita Vélez. He was born in Viesca during 1924 and died on November 5, 1994. His parents were Ciriaco Mejía and Eulalia Vélez, who also had Benito Mejía. On behalf of his mother he had two other brothers: Jesús Vélez and Socorro Vélez. They were all orphaned at the age of 5 and in the care of their uncles Virginia Vélez and her husband Don Manuel Mena.
