Tim Hortons Announces 80 New Restaurants, Renovations
Restaurant Brands International will invest $400 million as Tim Hortons expands in growing markets and speeds up remodels after years of slower growth.
- On Friday, Tim Hortons announced plans to open 80 new restaurants and renovate 400 existing locations across Canada this year, representing a $400 million total investment by Restaurant Brands International Inc. and its franchisees.
- With the Canadian population growing about 10 per cent since 2019, Tim Hortons chief operating officer Naira Saeed said the chain aims to capture the morning market, which accounts for 34 per cent of visits and roughly $11 billion in annual sales.
- The initiative utilizes Canadian-owned businesses and 100 per cent Canadian-sourced maple for furniture, with investments of about $165 million in Ontario and about $62 million in Alberta, where 17 new restaurants will be built.
- Renovations include upgraded kitchen equipment and clearer digital ordering layouts to improve service speed, with Tim Hortons president Axel Schwan stating, "These are Canadian families investing their own money in their own communities."
- While Montreal-based Foodtastic Inc. recently announced plans to revive Dunkin in Canada, Saeed stated the Tim Hortons expansion is not a reaction to that news, as the chain currently operates roughly 4,000 restaurants.
