Thousands of NHS staff to be made redundant after funding agreed
- On November 12, Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting will announce funding arrangements agreed with HM Treasury allow thousands of NHS England and local Integrated Care Boards redundancies to proceed next year.
- The Government will cut headcount by around 50%, removing around 18,000 administrative staff and requiring regional health boards to lose half of their 25,000 staff.
- It is understood the Treasury has not granted additional funding, but NHS will be allowed to overspend this year to pay for redundancies, Sir Jim Mackey said talks were `constructive` last week.
- In Greater Manchester about 1,600 staff were left in limbo, some 600 regional NHS employees face redundancy, around 3,000 staff who expressed interest can apply for voluntary redundancy between 1 to 14 December with national approval on 18 January.
- Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to make further Budget announcements on November 26, with Wes Streeting saying the Government is protecting an extra £29 billion for the NHS.
