The tops of hydro poles seem to be attractive to pileated woodpeckers who want to announce their presence and be “seen” by other members of their species. For several years a pair of pileated have used our woodlot in Quispamsis for foraging and nesting and the male bird often uses the hydro pole at a nearby road intersection as a drumming site.
