Missionary, Daughter Killed In FL Small Plane Crash On Trip To Jamaica: Reports
Alexander and Serena Wurm died while flying to Jamaica to support Hurricane Melissa relief, part of Ignite the Fire’s mission aiding Caribbean youth, officials said.
- On Monday, a Beechcraft King Air crashed into a pond in Coral Springs, Florida, killing Christian missionary Alexander Wurm, 53, and his daughter Serena Wurm, 22, shortly after leaving Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport around 10.
- Wurm had recently helped deliver medical supplies, water filters and StarLink to Jamaica for Crisis Response International, and FlightAware shows the aircraft made four trips there in the past week.
- Flight records show the plane descended rapidly after reaching an altitude of 11,000 feet and fell at about 300 miles per hour, while FAA documents list it as manufactured in 1976 and registered to International Air Services.
- Investigators said the NTSB and other agencies continue probing Tuesday; Vaz expressed condolences, saying `First of all, on behalf of the Government of Jamaica, want to extend deepest condolences to the family of the father and daughter who tragically lost their lives in the plane crash yesterday in Florida.'
- Sean Malone, founder of Crisis Response International, praised Wurm, saying he `sprung into action and did what he could,' and local Broward County Caribbean American community mobilized relief after Hurricane Melissa's Oct. 28 landfall.
