Pope Leo XIV Met Bad Bunny in Madrid on Monday: Vatican
The Vatican said the two exchanged a few words and took photos during a brief encounter as 80,000 Catholics gathered for the papal event.
On Monday, June 8, Pope Leo XIV and Bad Bunny met privately at the Bernabéu stadium in Madrid, where 80,000 Catholics from Spanish dioceses had gathered for a papal event.
Cardinal José Cobo Cano, the archbishop of Madrid, had suggested the encounter offered an opportunity to "build bridges," following weeks of rumors regarding a potential meeting between the two figures.
Over 600,000 tickets were sold for Bad Bunny's concerts in Spain, while 80,000 Catholics attended the papal event at the stadium.
The Vatican confirmed the two exchanged words and photos during their brief meeting. In 2023, Bad Bunny released "Baticano," a song blending Catholic imagery with sexual liberation.
Pope Leo XIV previously acknowledged competing with the singer for young people's attention during his weeklong visit, which drew 1.5 million people to his Sunday Mass.
