The decade begins to save indigenous languages from disappearance

Of the more than 7,000 languages spoken in the world - some 6,700 native - 3,000 could become extinct before the end of the century if immediate action is not taken. In the largest effort ever orchestrated, the UN proclaims a decade to protect these languages and preserve the wealth of history and knowledge they carry.
