Tesla to Recall over 14,500 Model Y SUVs in US over Missing Weight ...
Tesla says 45% of the recalled Model Y vehicles may lack a required weight label, and owners will need an inspection and new sticker.
On Thursday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall of 14,575 Tesla Model Y vehicles produced between November 17, 2024, and April 21, 2026, due to missing weight certification labels.
An automated vision-scanning tool at Tesla's Fremont, California, factory performed inconsistently for nearly six months. Tesla discovered the malfunction on April 17 after an internal audit found a vehicle missing the sticker.
Tesla estimates 45 percent of the recalled vehicles lack the label, which displays maximum safe loaded weight and tire information. Overloading increases crash risks by affecting maneuverability and braking distance.
Unlike most recalls, this issue cannot be fixed via software update, requiring physical inspection at Tesla service centers. Owners will receive formal notification on July 17 regarding repair steps.
Filed under number SB-26-19-002, this recall joins separate actions earlier this month involving rearview camera glitches and Cybertruck wheel rotors. The campaign highlights Tesla's recent production oversight challenges.
