Teenagers accused of murdering Glasgow boy Amen Teklay to stand trial next year
Two teenagers face murder charges after a masked attack involving a sword and frying pan, following earlier conflicts with the victim, prosecutors said.
- Two teenagers aged 15 and 16 were ordered to stand trial at the High Court in Glasgow, with Lord Scott fixing a date of June 17 next year, for the alleged murder of Amen Teklay on March 5.
- Prosecutors say the killing followed earlier clashes, including an alleged group assault on February 12 on Great Western Road, Glasgow, and a March 2 incident where the 15-year-old brandished a sword and metal barrier.
- Prosecutors allege the masked pair brandished a sword and frying pan, struck Amen with the sword in Clarendon Street, and the 15-year-old discarded a bloodstained top, tracksuit bottoms, and the sword.
- Both boys entered not guilty pleas, and Brian McConnachie KC lodged a special defence of self‑defence, while a memorial service and a GoFundMe crowdfunder with a £10,000 target were organized for Amen's family.
- The case was called at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday and although Lord Scott fixed a trial date for June 17 next year, the specific court remains undecided.
