Guillaume Delbar, the mayor of Roubaix, lost his last legal remedy and was finally sentenced to two years of ineligibility on charges of band fraud
The verdict came on November 26, 2025: Guillaume Delbar, found guilty of tax fraud, must resign. He will not be able to present himself to the municipalities 2026.
The Court of Cassation confirmed the sentence on appeal of the mayor of Roubaix for aggravated fraud. Guillaume Delbar, the first edile of the northern city of 100,000 inhabitants since 2014, will have to leave its seat and will not be able to represent himself in the municipalities of March 2026.
The Court of Cassation confirmed the decision of the Court of Appeal of Douai, which took place in May 2024. Guillaume Delbar is definitively sentenced to six months' suspended imprisonment, two years' ineligibility and 3,000 euros in fine for having participated in a complex financial set-up of defiscalized donations.
"More determined than ever! The truth will eventually win." On 30 October last, this is what the mayor of Roubaix wrote in the wake of a final hearing before the Court of Cassation in the tax fraud case that has continued since 2020. On 26 November, the judicial "truth" is finally pronounced. But this is not the case.
