- On Thursday, Taiwanese authorities raided homes tied to Intel vice president Wei-Jen Lo, seizing his computers and suspecting violations of the National Security Act.
- TSMC sued Lo on Tuesday in the Intellectual Property and Commercial Court, asserting a high probability he transferred its trade secrets to Intel.
- Prosecutors launched the probe on Nov. 18 after learning Lo was suspected of violating the National Security Act, and court permission was granted to seize Lo's stocks and real estate under Article 133 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
- Neither Intel nor TSMC immediately responded to requests for comment Thursday, and Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan told employees Wednesday that `Based on everything we know today, we see no merit to the allegations involving Wei-Jen, and he continues to have our full support.`
- Thursday's raid highlights Taiwan's prioritisation of its chip sector and raises geopolitical issues amid Intel Corp.'s push to catch up with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. for manufacturing clients.
