Both the Moderates and the Social Democrats welcome the news that a number of heavy industrial companies want to join in investing in new reactors in Sweden. But MP spokesman Daniel Helldén is skeptical. “This is mostly symbolism,” he says.
Nine heavy industrial companies are investing in Vattenfall's nuclear power project at Ringhals. The prerequisite for their participation is the large government subsidies consisting of government loans and a fixed electricity price for 40 years.
Vattenfall and several large companies within Industrikraft have signed an agreement for new nuclear power in Sweden. In the future, the companies will become part-owners of Vattenfall's nuclear power company. The fact that the state will join as a third owner is "in principle a prerequisite" for the project, says Vattenfall's CEO Anna Borg.
