Splitgate 2 Relaunches This Month as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded
1047 Games relaunches Splitgate 2 with major changes including new maps, weapons, and a rebuilt progression system to address player feedback and improve engagement.
- 1047 Games announced at the PC Games Show that Splitgate 2 returns on December 17 as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded and will be free-to-play on PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
- After its June debut, Splitgate 2 released to middling reviews and rapid player drop-off, prompting 1047 Games to 'unlaunch' it in July and pause support for a rebuild.
- In a rundown of changes, 1047 listed removing Factions and Abilities, rebuilding progression and the Ranked system, adding 5 new and 6 reworked maps, 3 new Primary Weapons, and the Railgun.
- CEO Ian Proulx acknowledged Splitgate 2 was `not a finished product yet`, pledging to add `basic features`, improve progression, and simplify monetization and the season pass based on player feedback.
- As a reversal of its earlier 'unlaunch', the relaunch tests the unlaunch and rebuild studio strategy, while if the arena focus and rebuilt progression succeed, the player base across PC and consoles could expand.
