Job Sikhala and his uncle face possession of explosives charges after police found 26 blasting cartridges and 15 fuse connectors in their vehicle, authorities said.
- On Monday, Zimbabwean opposition leader Job Sikhala and his uncle Alexander Ferrowst Thema appeared at the Pretoria Magistrates Court and were remanded in custody, with the case postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail hearing.
- Following a tip-off, police stopped a Ford Fiesta in Pretoria early Friday and found explosives, including 15 capped fuse connectors, police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.
- The pair face charges of unlawful possession of explosives, with Lumka Mahanjana saying `Investigations in this matter are ongoing, but you must understand that the State does not enroll any matter unless there is prima facie evidence against the accused, as he was found in possession of the explosives`,
- NDWG rejected the allegations, denied the explosives belonged to Sikhala, and vowed to defend their leader through all available legal channels.
- Sikhala, a former Citizens Coalition for Change MP and ex-Zengeza West legislator, was arrested in Pretoria, and police say they stopped the vehicle on Kgosi Mampuru Street where the search occurred.
