UN Investigates Israel over Reported Torture of Palestinian Detainees

- Committee rapporteur Peter Vedel Kessing detailed alleged methods including severe beatings, electric shocks, stress positions, starvation, waterboarding, sexual insults, and said many released detainees reportedly faced torture and ill-treatment.
- The committee also noted allegations against Hamas and told Israel it was aware of accusations of torture and war crimes by Hamas, while Daniel Meron, Israel's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, called the reports `disinformation` and affirmed Israel's commitment to its obligations.
- The committee is due to publish its findings on Nov 28 after the Nov 10–28 session and will address the disturbing descriptions with the state of Palestine in a future session.
