Ryanair says major change to boarding passes has been 'a huge success'
Ryanair’s new paperless boarding system enhances passenger experience and saves €40 million annually, with over 100,000 flyers using it on day one, the company said.
- From November, Ryanair moved to 100% digital boarding passes across Europe, requiring passengers to use the myRyanair app as printed passes are no longer accepted.
- Ryanair says the change builds on nearly 80% adoption by its 207M annual passengers and unlocks in-app features like Order to Seat and live flight information.
- On day one, more than 700 flights operated across Europe without delay, with over 100,000 passengers using the paper-free system and reporting positive feedback.
- Ryanair CMO Dara Brady estimated the DBP initiative could save up to €40M annually, helping lower ticket prices and boost competitiveness for Ryanair’s customers.
- Passengers swipe phones through boarding gates and airport security using the myRyanair app, and gate staff boarded one or two passengers with phone problems using online check-in details without offloading.
