Ryanair new rules explained as major change to comes into effect
Ryanair expects to save up to £40 million annually and reduce 300 tonnes of paper use by requiring all passengers to use digital boarding passes.
- On November 12, 2025, Ryanair moved to 100% Digital Boarding Passes, scrapping paper boarding passes across its European network.
- Ryanair said digital boarding passes lower airport costs and fares while enabling direct updates from its operations centre and improving customer service during disruptions.
- Ryanair CMO Dara Brady said, 'More than 98 per cent of passengers presented digital boarding passes, with no off‑loads.'
- Passengers must check in online before arriving or pay an airport check-in fee, and reissued paper passes will be free for those already checked in from November 12.
- Beyond fares, Ryanair says the move will save up to 40M and 300 tonnes of paper annually, meeting accessibility standards despite some exceptions like Morocco.
