More People Deported From Inside U.S. Than at Border for First Time in a Decade: Report

For the first time since at least 2014, immigration removals from inside the United States have surpassed deportations at the border, according to a report by the Migration Policy Institute.
The Migration Policy Institute estimates approximately 340,000 removals in fiscal year 2025, including formal orders of removal and voluntary departures.
Border encounters have dropped dramatically from 2.1 million in fiscal year 2024 to about 444,000 in fiscal year 2025.
