Remembering the Great June Flood... from 124 years ago: Homes, bridges and rail tracks wash away

Summary by Ground News
Calgary suffered another disastrous June flood 124 years ago today — the great flood of June 17/18, 1897. The community of Calgary had already experienced a flood in 1879, just four years after the North-West Mounted Police had settled into Fort Calgary. By 1897, there were between 3,900 and 4,000 people living in Calgary, with hundreds of homes, sheds, barns and businesses vulnerable to flooding.
