Rocket Returns: Roger Clemens Throws Out 1st Pitch to Son Kody at Fenway
The appearance came during bobblehead night, which the club timed with Kody Clemens’ arrival in Boston.
On Friday, Red Sox career leader Roger Clemens threw a ceremonial pitch to his son, Kody Clemens, at Fenway Park before the Boston Red Sox matchup with the Minnesota Twins. The 63-year-old made the toss to his son, who caught it behind home plate.
Roger accumulated 2,590 strikeouts over 13 seasons with the Red Sox, establishing himself as a franchise-leading pitcher who won three of his seven Young Awards. He departed Boston following the 1996 season.
With family members in the stands at Fenway, the club honored Roger with a bobblehead night. The 63-year-old wore his old jersey to the mound, marking a special return to the franchise he played for.
Noting his children often tease him about Kody's achievements, including striking out Shohei Ohtani, Roger said after throwing to Kody, "It's been a fun day." The moment marked the latest father-son connection for the former pitcher.
No Red Sox player has worn the jersey since 1996, though Roger downplayed potential retirement of his number. He remains absent from Fenway's row of honor, despite his 13-year tenure and three Young Awards.
