- On Jan. 30, 2026, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to bring the Freedom 250 Grand Prix to Washington, D.C., scheduled for Aug. 23 near the National Mall.
- Tied to America250, the order directs the Department of the Interior and U.S. Department of Transportation to work with Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington, D.C., and fast-track permits and approvals for the race.
- Organizers said the race will be free for spectators, televised on Fox, and administered with federal agencies, with Penske calling it 'a really amazing time for us in the company to support the 250th anniversary for the country.'
- City officials said hotel and restaurant businesses will boom and generate millions in tourism revenue, while organizers and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy flagged legal and security challenges around sponsorship rules and speeds near 200 mph.
