Police receive over 100 reports of domestic abuse per month in NI

Over 170 suspects have been arrested and charged since new coercive control legislation was introduced in February. Coercive control has been a criminal offence since new legislation within the Domestic Abuse and Civil Proceedings Act (Northern Ireland) 2021, came into force. Domestic abuse includes threatening, controlling, coercive behaviour, violence or abuse inflicted on anyone by a partner, ex-partner or family member.
