'Heartbreaking Decision': Planned Parenthood to Close 2 SW Ohio Clinics
HAMILTON COUNTY, OHIO, JUL 17 – Closures stem from state and national funding cuts, limiting access to reproductive health care for thousands who relied on these centers in Ohio, Planned Parenthood said.
- Planned Parenthood Southwest Ohio announced that it will shut down the facilities located in Springfield and Hamilton on August 1, 2025.
- The closures follow the federal 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act' signed July 4, which bars abortion providers receiving over $800,000 federally from Medicaid.
- Although the closing clinics do not provide abortions, they serve thousands annually with birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing, many paid through Medicaid.
- Nan Whaley, President and CEO, stated that despite exhausting all options to keep the centers operational, pressures from state and federal political challenges compelled the organization to make this very tough decision.
- The closures will reduce local healthcare access, likely increase unintended pregnancies, and lead to staffing cuts across other PPSWO locations.
