- Peru's National Emergency Operations Center said the collapse was caused by "erosion" of the Ucayali River bank, where some 50 people were on board one of the boats, AFP reported.
- Rescue teams mobilised by sea and air began evacuations to hospital as helicopter rescue units joined, while national police and the Peruvian Navy searched for survivors.
- Authorities are working with families gathered at the scene to determine who remains missing, fearing children are among the unaccounted and noting teachers and doctors were passengers.
- One of the boats had departed Pucallpa on Sunday, heading to riverside communities, while Rapido Oriente was submerged and Deo Rigo was seriously damaged after stopping in Iparia.
