The PDP faction led by Nyesom Wike expelled three governors and dissolved multiple state executives for court order violations and anti-party activities, NEC said.
- At the Tuesday NEC meeting in Abuja, Nyesom Wike's faction expelled Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed and Dauda Lawal, citing breaches of party discipline.
- The NEC said its decisions stemmed from Acting National Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Abdulrahman presenting a memo accusing members of disregarding court judgments and breaching Articles 58 and 59 of the party constitution.
- The NEC ratified the dissolution of several state executive councils, including Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo and Ekiti States, and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary, read the communique listing these measures and expulsions.
- The move prompted confusion and defections nationwide, with governors and legislators affected by defections, while NEC said it convened to uphold truth, justice and respect for the rule of law as Nigerians seek PDP leadership.
- After rival factions clashed at the PDP headquarters, Abuja on Tuesday, NEC stressed the party's legitimacy comes from its Constitution and The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
