- Rajya Sabha on Tuesday returned the Manipur Goods and Services Tax Bill, 2025 to Lok Sabha, which had passed it on Monday after a brief discussion and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's statement.
- Because Manipur was under President's Rule, the GST Act had been changed by ordinance, and the Bill seeks to replace that ordinance to align the Manipur GST Act, 2017 with the Central GST Act.
- Sitharaman highlighted specific changes, including tax slab shifts and compliance reforms, saying the 28 per cent tax slab has been abolished and several items moved to the 18 per cent slab with a track-and-trace system.
- The Modi government said the Bill secures uninterrupted revenue collection and enforcement in Manipur, and BJP MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its stability benefits.
- Amid the debate, Opposition MPs staged walkouts and filled the House with SIR slogans, while Chair C.P. Radhakrishnan rejected 21 Rule 267 notices amid protests inside and outside Parliament on December 2, 2025.
