Pa. electricity prices rising Dec. 1: PPL, Met-Ed and PECO customers will see higher bills
Energy supply rates for PPL and Met-Ed customers will rise 3.7% and 8.9% respectively, reflecting statewide demand growth and higher natural gas prices, the PUC said.
- On December 1st, 2025, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission said supply prices for PPL Electric Utilities, FirstEnergy's Met-Ed, and PECO will increase, raising the generation price-to-compare for residential customers.
- Rising wholesale costs on the PJM Interconnection LLC grid mean supply prices increase amid surging demand from data centers and electric vehicles, and utilities reset Price to Compare twice yearly.
- For example, a 1,000 kWh household will see PPL's residential PTC rise from $0.1249 to $0.12953 per kWh, an increase of about 3.7%.
- The PUC recommends residential customers note that PPL's proposed distribution rate increase could raise a 918 kWh bill from $177.01 to $189.40, under review, starting next month.
- The PUC has scheduled public hearings in December to consider PPL's proposed distribution-rate increase, which, if approved, will impact about 1.5 million customers, with a final decision due by July 1, 2026.
