Over $1.8M in donations pour in for James Van Der Beek’s wife, 6 children
Over 35,000 donors have raised more than $2 million online to support James Van Der Beek's widow and six children facing financial strain after his cancer battle.
- On February 11, a GoFundMe page was set up and shared via James Van Der Beek's Instagram stories to support Kimberly Brook and their six children, raising over $1 million from more than 20,000 donors within 24 hours.
- Years of treatment left the family out of funds, as Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer in August 2023 and went public in November 2024.
- Multiple co-stars and celebrities posted tributes and shared the GoFundMe link, including Busy Philipps, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alfonso Ribeiro, while Fox's The Real Full Monty will air February 18 with a QR code for the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
- In interviews, Van Der Beek said `I've learned a lot' and `If I can save anyone from having to go through this, that's magic,' while a doctor stated `He was 48, and this didn't need to happen.'
- Doctors urged people to book colonoscopies, noting the screening age was lowered from 50 to 45, and to watch for symptoms like bleeding or bowel changes.
