Here’s How Much Ontario Taxpayers Are on the Hook for in Private Jet Purchase and Sale
The reversal covered legal advice, storage and inspections after public backlash forced Ontario to resell the $28.9-million Bombardier jet.
On Wednesday, the Ontario government released documents showing the province incurred nearly $200,000 in extra costs following Premier Doug Ford's decision to resell a $28.9-million private jet purchased last month.
Ford had purchased a used 2016 Bombardier Challenger 650 for $28.9-million but sold it back to the manufacturer days later after opposition politicians called it the "gravy plane."
Invoices show the extra expenses include nearly $140,000 for aircraft management services such as maintenance and storage, alongside nearly $34,000 in outside legal counsel fees.
Opposition politicians including Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles and Liberal leader John Fraser demanded an audit, though a PC-dominated committee blocked the motion this week.
Auditor-General Shelley Spence said her office's audit schedule is full for 2027, meaning any investigation into the jet transaction would likely be delayed by more than a year.
