Off-duty ICE officer shoots, kills man firing gun near his Los Angeles home, DHS says
The off-duty ICE officer fired in self-defense after a man with a rifle refused to comply, with the suspect firing at least three rounds before being killed, officials said.
- On Wednesday, an off‑duty ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officer shot and killed a man who allegedly had a long rifle at Valley Pointe Apartments on Roscoe Boulevard in Northridge.
- Hearing suspected gunfire nearby, the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officer took his ICE-authorized firearm and left his apartment to investigate Wednesday, encountering a male subject armed with what appeared to be a long rifle.
- DHS described a defensive exchange in which the ICE officer fired after the subject refused to comply and fired at least three rounds at him, then retrieved body armor and called police.
- ICE's Office of Professional Responsibility is coordinating with the Los Angeles Police Department, and neither the ICE officer's nor the deceased man's identities have been released as the LAPD investigates.
- Residents of the Valley Pointe Apartments said they heard more than 10 shots and initially thought the noise was fireworks, while officers responded at 11:37 p.m. Wednesday to the complex at Roscoe Boulevard and Amestoy Avenue.
