NT government paid for 'urgent' stabilisation work on iron ore mine

Summary by Ground News
The NT government was forced to step in and pay a contractor more than $400,000 to stabilise a Vietnamese-owned iron ore mine prior to the wet season. Inspectors identified "high potential risks associated with erosion and sediment control" at the Roper Valley iron ore project. The mine, 550 kilometres south-east of Darwin, has opened and closed under several different owners since 2013. In 2021, it was taken over by Vietnam's largest steel manufacturer, the Hoa Phat Group, and started to export its first iron ore in July 2022.
