The number of fireworks-related injuries during the recent New Year's Eve celebrations rose sharply compared to the previous year. 474 victims were injured to such an extent that they required emergency room treatment. Many children were also seriously injured, partly by picking up and re-igniting fireworks, according to the SafetyNL knowledge center for injury prevention.
