‘My principal asked, 'Are you on the Drake album?'': Toronto teen producer lands on rapper's new trilogy
The 16-year-old producer says the placements led to legal paperwork, surprise calls from major collaborators and new doors in the music industry.
Toronto producer Arham Paul, 16, earned credits on two songs from Drake's surprise album trilogy that dropped last week, reports confirmed Saturday.
A friend working on Drake's projects tapped Paul to craft an '80s-style intro,' prompting a late-night session with Miami-based producer Sebas Lopez that became 'Classic.'
Paul contributed to 'Classic' and 'Q&A,' immersing himself in retro R&B sounds and altering MIDI files from Dallas producer Stack!e to create genre-blending beats Drake requested.
The Bill Hogarth Secondary School student scrambled to finalize legal paperwork two weeks before release, while classmates and teachers expressed excitement at his sudden rise.
Paul now receives attention from producers RiotUSA and CuBeatz and hopes to collaborate with artists including Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and SZA.
