Minnesota Law Enforcement Agencies Hire IACP To Review June 14 Political Assassinations
The review will assess law enforcement coordination during a 43-hour manhunt following the fatal shootings of two lawmakers and others, with findings due in six months.
- On June 14, Minnesota law enforcement agencies hired the International Association of Chiefs of Police to review their response to the shootings that left Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and others wounded.
- The review will evaluate the 43-hour manhunt for suspect Vance Boelter and assess coordination and communication, starting with the initial 911 call at 2:30 a.m. on June 14 from Hope Hoffman.
- The agencies expect the IACP report to take about six months, costing $429,500 with DPS covering $210,000 and Hennepin County $165,000.
- Last week the Brooklyn Park Police Department completed an internal review and cleared the first two officers on the scene for firing on Boelter, while broader questions about information sharing remain.
- The International Association of Chiefs of Police will identify lessons to strengthen nationwide law enforcement, requiring June 14 records retention, as Bob Jacobson said, `By examining what worked well and where we can improve, we can strengthen our ability to respond to future emergencies`.
