Met Office Issues Five Weather Warnings Including Two Amber Alerts
Storm Claudia will bring 40-80mm of rain causing flood risks and travel disruption across central and southern UK, with 20 flood warnings and 33 alerts issued, the Met Office said.
- Met Office issued fresh warnings for Friday across the United Kingdom, with two amber alerts for rain active from 12pm until 11.59pm.
- Storm Claudia, named by the Spanish Meteorological Service, is expected to bring very heavy, slow-moving rain to central and southern England and Wales on Friday into Saturday, with some areas seeing up to a month's worth in 24 hours on saturated ground.
- Forecasts show gusts of 50 to 60 mph, perhaps up to 70 mph in exposed places, with rain accumulations 40-80 mm and in some amber areas over 150mm, especially across the East Midlands and higher ground in Wales and western England.
- The Met Office warned of immediate impacts including flooding and power cuts as homes and businesses could flood, train and bus services may face delays, and affected communities may be briefly cut off.
- From 6am on Friday, a 24-hour yellow rain warning covers much of England and Wales until 6am on Saturday November 15, and the Met Office advises road users and public-transport passengers to check conditions and secure loose items.
