Man jailed for life after stabbing teenager three times in 'horrific' attack

On June 4, 2024, Awad Abdel Samad stabbed Mohamed Abdi three times during a fight at the Bell Street and Edgware Road junction, where officers found Abdi wounded and performed CPR.
The road confrontation began when Mohamed Abdi flashed his lights at the back of Awad Abdel Samad's Seat Leon, prompting both men to stop and exit their cars on Edgware Road.
Using CCTV and phone forensics, the Metropolitan Police Service evidence teams identified the victim and traced suspects, arresting Samad with a large lock knife on October 8, 2024.
The court sentenced Awad Abdel Samad to life with a minimum term for murder, while Mohamad El-Hazzaa, driver of the Seat Leon, was convicted on September 24, 2025 and sentenced on November 13.
Mohamad El-Hazzaa attempted to flee by swapping phones and booking a flight, and was arrested at the airport when he returned, DCI Denby said, 'We will continue to work tirelessly and use all our resources...'.
