Ontario Police Watchdog Investigating After Windsor Officers Fatally Shoot Man
The suspect was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after officers responded to an altercation and found him armed with a knife.
On Friday evening, Windsor police shot a man armed with a knife after responding to reports of an "altercation" near Roseville Garden Drive and Thornberry Crescent at around 6:30 p.m.
Police discovered the suspect armed with a knife upon arrival, prompting officers to deploy an energy weapon known as a Taser before discharging their firearms during the encounter.
CBC News observed more than a dozen police vehicles securing the 6700 block of Roseville Garden Drive, while witnesses reported hearing two separate waves of gunfire with several shots fired.
The suspect was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and Ontario's Special Investigations Unit has assumed control of the investigation as Windsor police ceased providing further details.
Four investigators and two forensic specialists have been assigned to the case by the Special Investigations Unit, with an autopsy scheduled for Sunday and support available through the Affected Person Program.
