Man charged with assisting offender over Jewish ambulance arson

The fire caused about £1m of damage and affected nearby flats and a synagogue, police said.

  • On Monday, British authorities charged 18-year-old Subhan Ahmed with "assisting an offender" in connection with the March 23 arson attack on four Jewish Community Ambulance service vehicles in Golders Green, north London.
  • Four other men—Hamza Iqbal, 20; Rehan Khan, 19; Judex Atshatski, 18; and a 17-year-old who cannot be named—were previously charged with arson for the same March incident.
  • Counter Terrorism Policing London is investigating the fire as a hate crime, with all five suspects scheduled for trial in January 2027.
  • Ahmed has been bailed and must appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on June 16, while four co-defendants were remanded in custody following an April 24 court appearance.
  • The attack fits a pattern of recent antisemitic incidents across London and Europe, including arson targeting synagogues and alleged plots against Jewish sites in France and The Netherlands.
