Long-awaited Grande Prairie Regional Hospital opens to patients

After $850 million and more than a decade of work, the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital began seeing patients on Saturday. The building has 11 operating rooms and a dedicated obstetrical OR in the maternity unit as well as a cancer centre offering radiation therapy for the first time in the province’s north. Acute care units and the ER were closed at the QEII as of Saturday but the hospital remain open for some services including dialysis.
