Olympic Athletes Elect Korean Bobsled Pilot and Estonian Biathlete to Represent Them at IOC
Won Yunjong and an Estonian biathlete were elected by Olympic athletes to the International Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission.
- On Feb. 19, 2026, Won Yun-jong was elected to the IOC Athletes' Commission after finishing first among 11 candidates with 1,176 votes from 2,393 athletes.
- Won Yun-jong is the third South Korean elected to the IOC Athletes' Commission and the first Winter Olympian among them, joining Moon Dae-sung and Ryu Seung-min.
- According to the IOC, 2,871 athletes were eligible and 83.4 percent voted from Jan. 30 to Wednesday at 2 p.m.
- Athletes' Commission members serve an eight-year term and have the same rights as other IOC members; the top two vote-getters will replace Emma Terho and Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen.
- After the results, Won Yun-jong said in a Korean Sport & Olympic Committee video, `I want to thank my family for their support.` He pledged to reach out to athletes and was photographed celebrating with Nicole Hoevertsz and Johanna Taliharm on Feb. 19, 2026.
