Japan's Space Agency Conducts First Test Flight for Experimental Reusable Rocket
The flight lasted less than one minute and marked a step toward lower-cost launches and a future successor to Japan’s H3 rocket.
Japan's experimental reusable RV-X rocket completed its first test flight, which included takeoff, hovering, horizontal movement, and a safe landing in under one minute at the Noshiro Testing Center.
The RV-X is being developed by JAXA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries as a cost-effective successor to Japan's current single-use H3 rocket series.
Future tests plan to send the RV-X to higher altitudes as part of efforts to advance reusable rocket technology.
Japan aims to reduce launch costs and compete globally with companies like SpaceX by developing stable and commercially competitive reusable rocket technology.
