Jackson Holliday's HR helps O's extend Tigers' skid to 7
On Friday, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Detroit Tigers 7-4 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, handing Detroit their seventh consecutive loss while Pete Alonso homered to help Baltimore snap a three-game losing streak.
Tigers pitcher Jack Flaherty balked in the tying run during the fourth inning, then allowed Jackson Holliday's go-ahead two-run homer, surrendering six runs over 3 1/3 innings in the rainy loss.
Shortstop Kevin McGonigle hit a first-pitch home run to spark Detroit early, but his fielding error in the third inning led to three unearned runs; McGonigle said, "It's part of baseball where you make a mistake."
Detroit has now lost 15 of their past 17 games, falling to a 20-32 record, 12 games under.500. Manager AJ Hinch said, "The game doesn't let you off the hook."
Rain in the forecast could force a doubleheader on Sunday following Saturday's scheduled matchup, where Tigers LHP Framber Valdez is slated to start opposite Orioles RHP Brandon Young .
