Israeli strike kills Gaza boy and five police officers, police say
The strike came as Hamas’s 10,000-strong police force remained a sticking point in talks over Gaza’s postwar security plan.
On Saturday, an Israeli air strike hit a Palestinian police post in the Tawam area of northern Gaza, killing five police officers and a 13-year-old boy, Gaza police said.
The strike occurred as the Gaza police force, comprising nearly 10,000 officers, remains a sticking point in talks to advance United States President Donald Trump's plan, with Israel objecting to involvement of officers with Hamas affiliations.
Al Jazeera's Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, said the incident aligns with a recurring pattern of Israeli strikes on security structures; health officials say near-daily attacks have killed more than 880 Palestinians since the truce.
The Gaza Health Ministry reported eight bodies and 29 wounded arrived at hospitals within 48 hours, while UNRWA noted basic medicines remain in short supply, leaving children without treatment for infections.
Despite the October 10, 2025, ceasefire, Israel maintains a strict security regime across the Gaza Strip, carrying out near-daily attacks that have contributed to at least 72,775 Palestinian deaths since the war began.
