According to the Financial Times, talks were started between several European countries and Tehran to gain access to the Strait of Ormuz. On Thursday, however, the new Iranian Supreme Guide Mojtaba Khamenei called for the closure of this ultra-strategic maritime passage.
Shipments through the narrow entry point into the Gulf, through which about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passes, are negligible after the Iranian attacks.
