- Local government elections require voters to register at their place of ordinary residence because the IEC emphasized there is no legal facility to vote outside the registered ward.
- Between November 2025 and March 2026, 260,205 new registrations were recorded, with 132,092 citizens using the online portal and 128,113 using Voter Management Devices .
- Following the registration weekend, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa will proclaim the election date once the voter registration process concludes.
- The Department of Home Affairs expanded a bank partnership allowing citizens to apply for Smart ID cards in five to ten minutes, removing barriers to voter registration.
