Baltimore ‘violence interrupter’ arrested for attempted murder
Antoine Burton faces attempted first-degree murder and handgun charges after police say he shot a 40-year-old man during a routine patrol response.
On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Baltimore Police arrested Antoine Burton, a worker at the Belvedere Safe Streets Site, for the nonfatal shooting of a 40-year-old man in the 4400 block of Park Heights Avenue.
Shortly after the shooting, officers apprehended Burton in the 2400 block of Loyola Northway; he now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and multiple handgun violations.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott decried Burton's actions as "a disgrace," insisting the shooting was an isolated incident that should not undermine Safe Streets' proven violence-prevention work.
Per LifeBridge Health Center for Hope policy, Burton is currently on leave without pay pending investigation; the Belvedere Safe Streets Site is overseen by the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement .
Established in 2007, the Safe Streets program aims to reduce gun violence through frontline community intervention and operates alongside the Park Heights Site under MONSE guidance.
