[Tomigusuku] On the 13th, a golden-colored specimen of the Sakishima pit viper, a snake endemic to the Yaeyama Islands, was captured in a field in Nagado, Tomigusuku City. The Sakishima pit viper was introduced to a tourist facility in Itoman City in the 1970s and is now established mainly around Yonesu in the same city. Experts say, "It is believed that this individual moved from its established habitat hidden in cargo or other items."
