Temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees, guaranteed by the European Union and thanks to which they are also legally in the Czech Republic, is to be extended beyond March 2027, but with restrictions for men subject to military service. Interior Minister Lubomír Metnar (ANO) announced that the majority of European Union member states agree on this. This is a proposal that Metnar has been promoting for a long time.
Compulsory men from Ukraine will probably not be as easily protected in the EU as they have been in the past, as the interior ministers of the EU countries plan to do.
Austria has proposed to change the rules of temporary protection for Ukrainians in the countries of the European Union. We are talking about men of conscription age who will arrive in the EU after March 2027.
At the meeting of EU interior ministers in Luxembourg, immigration is high on the agenda. It is now being discussed how to deal with Ukrainian refugees of vulnerable age.
The EU interior ministers are discussing for the first time a restriction of the automatic protection status for Ukrainian men. Austria urges that Ukrainians aged between 23 and 60 no longer be admitted.
