GIBRALTAR - A colony of macaques that gorge on snacks offered by tourists in the British territory of Gibraltar swallow soil to recover from their junk food binges, a study has found.
Chips recovered from garbage cans, leftovers of sandwiches stolen from tourists, or ice-cream packed from visitors: in Gibraltar, human food changes the eating habits of the famous rock macaques. According to a recent study, some of them have even developed a form of self-medication by eating land to alleviate the disturbances caused by this unusual diet.
