April 11, 1974   David Allen Chetwood, 8, drowned after falling into the Lester Shingle mill pond. David and his brother, Danny, were apparently searching for frogs when the accident occurred. In an attempt to save his brothers’ life, Danny jumped in. Bystanders Jim Pritchett and Greg Osburn also then dove in to rescue the two boys, saving Danny. Photo – Down and out – The DuBois School has fallen into disrepair since its doors were closed permanently in 1978. The school is being torn down by an outfit for the bricks and lumber that can be salvaged.
